How much do you have going on at Christmas this year at your church? If you are like most churches, your calendar is full of activities for the church, choir, kids, and students. Instead of doing business as normal this year, why don’t you use Social Media and enhance what you already have on your calendar?

Here are a few quick ideas that I hope will inspire others:

1. Video interview the Family your church or Sunday School class is helping

If your church or class is going to help a family(ies) at Christmas why not interview them and post it on YouTube / Facebook /Twitter? If it is a dad who has lost his job and the family cannot afford Christmas how powerful would it be to let him tell his story to the camera? How much more support might you get? If they are leery of the camera, interview them for a Facebook note or for your church blog. If your church is helping kids at a local school with Christmas interview the principal and let her tell the stories. Stories make a huge impact when told first hand.

2. Interview the cast of the Children’s Play

Put 3 or 4 of the cast from the Children’s play in a room with a camera and interview them 20/20 style. Let them tell about learning their lines, practice, etc. It will no doubt be a great watch that the church, family, and community would even enjoy. When you are finished, post it on all your Social Media outlets.

3. Interview the Minister of Music and choir members about the Christmas musical.

Do the same as in #2 and let them talk about what the songs mean to them – how their lives have been touched or impacted by the words and the story of Christmas.

4. Post Snippets of the musical or play

If you can find video online of the play or the songs you will sing in the musical post those everywhere to give people a sneak preview. Don’t post 45 minutes worth, but post 3-6 minutes here and there. Create excitement about the event by giving them a little taste of what’s to come.

5. Keep your Holiday schedule flowing

All churches adjust their schedules around the Christmas season. Keep yours posted and reposted on a regular and consistent basis. You can’t tell them too many times what the changes are.

Those are just a few ideas to get you thinking.

Leave your ideas and comments below…

I think sometimes we read the events of the birth of Jesus a little too casually without stopping to place ourselves in the shoes of the characters.

Think for a moment about some of the odd events that surrounded the birth of Christ:

1. Mary, a virgin, conceived the child of God. Angles appeared to her and spoke to her and she told people about it.

2. A star guided a band of wise men – traveling in all their pomp - to Jerusalem looking for someone to be king! They told the current king they were being guided by a bright light to his replacement!!

3. Jesus was born in a manger. The King of Kings and Lord of Lords was born in a smelly cave surrounded by sheep and manure. But, in the providence of God, where else would the Lamb of God be born!

4. Shepherds, working the third shift, were visited by a multitude of the heavenly host and told of the event. They probably saw and heard thousands of angels. Shepherds – not royalty – had the birth of Christ announced to them.

5. Joseph had his engaged wife tell him she was expecting – and GOD was the father! They lock people up for saying things like that.

I could go on and on. That’s just the main characters. That’s just enough to make you ponder a little bit this Christmas season.

Don’t just read the Christmas story. Read the story and talk about it. How would you have felt? Reacted?

Then remember, God did all of that so you could have a relationship with Him. He did it so that your sins could be forgiven – so that you could go to heaven – so that you could be saved.

It’s a great story.

And…… it really was a strange way to save the world.

What makes the way we do church different than everyone else?

LBC is making a real impact in our community and we are constantly showing and sharing the love of Christ. In the last couple of months – Here is a small sample of what we have done:

We raised over $1,500 to help Dawnville Elementary buy food to send home with children they think are going hungry

We handed out book bags and school supplies to communities and schools in the hundreds

We took up over $7,000 [so far] for our world missions offering that will help support missionaries all around the world

We bought “snacks” for Cedar Ridge Elementary to help them feed hungry kids – $ cost and value in the hundreds

We have bought – and are buying – coats for children that Cedar Ridge can give out to kids who are cold

Many of our SS classes adopted families and bought Christmas who would not have anything otherwise

Our Men’s Ministry took up an impromptu offering and bought Christmas for families who wouldn’t have had it otherwise

You pledged over $18,000 for FAITH missions for next year

We took up shoe-boxes for Operation Christmas Child

We covered communities on Halloween and handed out candy and church information. We gave candy out to hundreds of children

We wrapped Christmas presents at Walnut Square Mall for 4 Saturdays for FREE – yes FREE! We wrapped around 1,000 gifts

There is more – I just can’t think of it all. And that’s in just the last few months!

That is what separates us from everyone else – we’re not just talking about Christ – we are trying to act like Him as well.

Liberty – you are doing a great job! You are the Best!

OK. This story comes from the files of just almost unbelievable. Where has Mayberry gone?

The town of Cheviot, Ohio is taking extra security measures this year to protect baby Jesus [you can read about it here http://bit.ly/8jrEQ8 ]. Several years ago someone stole their baby Jesus from the town’s nativity scene several times. So, to combat that this year, they have installed security cameras to watch over baby Jesus. The article goes on to say that a new industry is being formed in order to protect baby Jesus in public nativity scenes. Some companies even put GPS locators in the dolls in case Jesus gets kidnapped. WOW!

And then I thought – I wish Christians protected Jesus as much at Christmas time. It seems that years ago the Lord Jesus was stolen completely away from the Holiday of Christmas as well. We let Him get “swiped” and we haven’t even gone looking for Him.

This Christmas – find Jesus and put Him in His rightful place!

He is the reason for the season!
